Who’s Holding You Back

Who is holding you back from being successful?

Are you not successful because your company isn’t getting enough leads?
Are you not successful because you boss doesn’t get you the right tools?
Are you not successful because the economy is down?

Or are you not successful because you aren’t doing the things you need to be successful?
Point!
If you’re picking one of the top three or any other reason other than that its your fault then you’re wrong. The only person who is going to take responsibility for your success is you. Don’t rely on anyone even your boss to give you tools to be successful – you need to go take them.

Stop holding yourself back.

Everyone is a Salesman

Sales is a team game but most people don’t realize they are playing.

Yes everyone on the team is a salesman. At Integrum there are 14 of us now, I’m the only one with a title that has Sales in it. But that doesn’t mean that the other 13 aren’t salesmen.

Every time you talk about your company or product you’re selling. You don’t even know it but you are. The way you talk about what you’re offering, the words you choose, the body language, the tone, all speak volumes to your audience – who are all potential clients.

Make sure that everyone who works on your team remembers this – that is selling just as much as talking to your leads. Put forth the good front and have everyone on the same page, because first impressions really do last.

People or Program?

Darpa Weather Ballon

Recently DARPA put on a contest to see how quickly people could find 10 weather balloons they “hid” across the US. The team that won did so in an unusual manner, they asked everyone else to do the work for them (see more details at Science Friday).

This team proved something that has been bouncing around my head for a while now. The true power of social media is in the people. The programs that power Twitter or Facebook or even Google are awesome engineering feats and all, but if no one was using them to answer questions, organize events, or spread the news they would be irrelevant.

This is why things like Aadvark are going to be awesome. People are the important parts of the technology – never let the geeks around you forget that.
