Doing things Differently

Today we at Integrum had a client who wanted to go through a process that we usually take 2-3 days to accomplish in under 8 hours. Was it something that takes 2-3 days to do? No, but in order to be as responsible as possible with our developers’ time and manage expectations we take that long. Today I did a far more in depth estimation process than I have in the past and in under an hour.

I did this for two reasons.

  1. The Client asked for it for a convenience factor – They were coming from out of state for one day and were looking for some quick reasons to go with Integrum over someone else
  2. Because we can

I knew that it would be difficult to pull off but not impossible, and at the same time I wanted to wow the Client.   It’s not a vanity thing (although I can see how you would think that) but it was my way of showing the Client that I am willing to go above and beyond expectations in order to earn their business.   That not only reflects on me, but on the willingness of the Integrum team to really step up and deliver even when things are done a little differently than they are used to.

Lesson Learned Today: Don’t be afraid to try something new especially if it scares you a bit.   You may just show how awesome your team can be.

Big fan of your lesson learned today. In fact I think we learned a similar lesson today at Team Forty. May fill you in on it tomorrow ;)
