Reclaiming my Commute
I have a long drive to work everyday. Which translates to a long drive home as well. Until recently that was time that was lost as far as anything productive is concerned – unless you count listening to wacky morning DJs or talk radio as productive. Seeing as how I’ve got 90 minutes or more a day in my car, I decided to try audiobooks as an option. This kills two birds for me, as I’ve got a huge backlog of books that I want to read and less and less time to read them.
After three books down I’m hooked. I find the gaps between drives no different than the gaps between when I can pick up a book, and there is nearly as much engagement as the written page. There are still times I’ll prefer to pick up paper and ink, but seeing as how I’m alone in my car for as much time as I am, now I’m at least using my brain.
Take Away: Try something new for a bit and see if it can make you more productive.

Glad to hear you are being productive on those long drives! Too bad having long intellectual talks with your wife doesn’t count as productive!
So I know this killer site where you can get audiobooks for free. Maybe you’ve heard of it?
Only slighly kidding.
In truth, I spend the VAST majority of my time listening to audiobooks. Radio is — and has been — non-existent in my ride for a very long time.
Here’s to letting your brain consume the right media in the right medium at the right time.
